CBSE Class 10 Syllabus: Know All About It

The Syllabus plays an important role in understanding the course curriculum. It becomes even more prominent when students have to appear for the class 10th board examination, as it is for the first time they are going to face the board exams. In this, the knowledge of the curriculum helps students in their preparation journey. By referring to the CBSE Syllabus for Class 10, they get to know the lessons and educational content which is to be taught in a school. The Board has also made certain changes in the syllabus for the academic year 2021-22. It has decided to divide the academic session 2021-22 into 2 Terms with approximately 50% syllabus in each term. Here we have provided the complete detail on the CBSE Class 10 Syllabus that each student must know at the beginning of the academic year.

CBSE Class 10 Syllabus

A syllabus is a planned set of educational experiences provided to the students by a school. It encompasses general objectives of learning, courses of study, subject-wise learning outcomes and content, pedagogical practices and assessment guidelines. Students can get the complete details of the course curriculum on the CBSE official website. The Syllabus provided by CBSE is based on the National Curriculum Framework-2005 and offers opportunities to students to achieve excellence in learning.

CBSE Special Scheme for 2021-22 Academic Year Due to COVID 19 Pandemic

CBSE has decided to divide the Syllabus for the 2021-22 academic session into 2 Terms by following a systematic approach by looking into the interconnectivity of concepts and topics by the Subject Experts. The Board will conduct examinations at the end of each term on the basis of the divided Syllabus. This is done to increase the probability of having Board examinations for Classes X and XII at the end of the academic year.

CBSE will rationalize the Syllabus for 2021-22, similar to the last academic year. It will notify the details of the updated Syllabus in July 2021. However, for the academic transactions, schools will follow the curriculum and Syllabus released by the Board earlier this year by the circular dated 31 March 2021. Schools will also use alternative academic calendars and inputs from the NCERT on transacting the curriculum. The Board will make Internal Assessment/ Practical/ Project work more credible and valid as per the guidelines and Moderation Policy.

Details of Curriculum Transaction

Schools will continue teaching in distance mode till the authorities permit an in-person mode of teaching in schools. Classes 9th and 10th, the Internal Assessment (throughout the year-irrespective of Term I and II) would include the three periodic tests, student enrichment, portfolio and practical work/ speaking and listening activities/ projects. However, for Classes 11th and 12th, the Internal Assessment (throughout the year-irrespective of Term I and II) would include end of topic or unit tests/ exploratory activities/ practicals/ projects. For this, schools would create a student profile for all assessments undertaken over the year and retain the evidence in digital format. The Board will facilitate schools to upload marks of Internal Assessment on the CBSE IT platform. The Board would also provide additional resources like sample assessments, CBSE Previous Year Question Papers for Class 10, question banks, teacher training etc., for more reliable and valid internal assessments. The guidelines for Internal Assessment for all subjects will also be released soon on the official website, along with the rationalized term wise divided Syllabus for the 2021-22 academic session.
